The presentation of Anatol’ Butevič’s book Таямніцы Крэўскага замка: Падарожжа па нашай гісторыі з Вітаўтам Вялікім (Secrets of the Kreva Castle: Journey through our history with Vytautas the Great) took place in the Library on January 21.
The Kreva Castle in Smorgon’ district of Grodno region is famous for the Union of Krevo, when Jogaila, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, signed the agreement with the Kingdom of Poland on August 14, 1385. This agreement was called the Union of Krevo and it changed the European history.
Many historical names are connected with the Kreva Castle. Grand Dukes of Lithuania Gediminas and Algirdas built the Kreva Castle. There Vytautas in women’s clothes ran from his death. The Russian dissident Andrew Kurbski wrote letters to Ivan the Terrible also there. And like every ancient castle, the Kreva Castle has its own legends, stories, myrhs, underpasses still wait for their discoverers.
The book became a continuation of the castle series: Таямніцы Мірскага замка (Secrets of the Mir Castle), Таямніцы Нясвіжскага замка (Secrets of the Nesvizh Castle), Таямніцы Крэўскага замка (Secrets of the Kreva Castle), materials for the next book Таямніцы Гальшанскага замка (Secrets of the Halshany Castle) is being prepared.
The author of the book, public figure, writer, translator, publicist and critic Anatol’ Butevič, the head of the public association "Belarusian fund of culture" Vladimir Gilep, the writer and poet Kastus' Cvirko, the deputy director of the Belarusian fund of culture Tadeuš Stružecki, the deputy director for research and publishing activities Aliaksandar Suša participated in the event.
The ensemble of ancient music Brevis created the atmosphere of a festive meetings in an ancient castle.
The National Library gave guests an opportunity to get acquainted with the diverse work of the writer, literary historian, local historian and translator Anatol’ Butevič and editions dedicated to the Belarusian castles.
