On January, 27th, a presentation of Anatoly Fedoruk’s book The Old Manors of the Grodno Region was held at the National Library of Belarus.
The edition was released in November, 2014, with funding from the museum “The Mir Castle Complex”. The book contains illustrations and data on manors of the XVI – early XX centuries which were located in the territory of the Berastovica, Volkovyssk, Voronovo, Grodno, Dyatlovo, Zelva and Ivye areas of the Grodno Region. This unique study can be a basis for planning tourist routes in the Grodno Region.
At the opening ceremony director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky noted that the question of preservation of historical and cultural heritage was always urgent. “Anatoly Fedoruk works hard to promote the cultural heritage of Belarus and impart to readers love of the country”, he said.
Anatoly Fedoruk’s books reflect the history of old manors, the features of architectural constructions, parks and alleys, water systems, the nobiliary culture, artistic and family values, and the lifestyle of their owners. The current state of manors, the importance of their preservation and new functional use are described.
“It’s a great honor to us to be involved in publishing such a significant edition”, – Olga Popko, director of the museum “The Mir Castle Complex” said to the author. – “The Book will give impetus to the study of the Grodno Region local lore”.
It is necessary to note that in 2013 the publishing house “Belarus” had already published Anatoly Fedoruk’s work Old Manors of Belarus. Korelichy Area, and this year the edition of the third final volume with data on manors of other areas of the Grodno Region is planned.
During the presentation the author received hearty words and congratulations from Vice-President of the Republican council on culture and art Anatoly Butevich, reviewers of the edition Doctor of Architecture Sergey Sergachev and Candidate of Art Criticism Alexander Yaroshevich, leading expert of the publishing house “Belarus” and editor of the book of Angela Sadovskaya.
“For me, today is a very special day! I’d love not to simply speak of the book, but lead you through the distant epochs which I’ve been studied for decades”, – the author of the book said. Keeping his word he “dipped" spectators into the past where there was a place to skillfully constructed manors and green alleys with rare kinds of plants. Anatoly Fedoruk presented to the audience, literally on his palm, an absolutely unfamiliar world which existed not long ago where we live today. The world data about which have been lost eventually, and the roads to picturesque monuments of our ancestors’ culture are forgotten.
Singers Elena Komarova and Irina Skvorko performed classical romances creating an atmosphere of the old-time aristocratic milieu.
Anatoly Fedoruk, Prof., Dr.Sci.Biol. is a professor of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank. Prof. Anatoly Fedoruk has been engaged in studying history of architecture, culture of ancient manors of Belarus since 1967. He is the author of books Landscape Gardening Art of Belarus, Old Manors of the Minsk Region, Old Manors of the Brest Region.
In 2006, Anatoly Fedoruk was awarded the Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus for a contribution to studying and preservation of monuments of landscape gardening culture of Belarus.
