On February, 3rd, the Library hosted a presentation of a six-volume scientific edition Traditional Art Culture of Belarus .
The edition represents a fundamental study reflecting the riches and diversity of major kinds and genres of national culture of all six historical and ethnographic regions of Belarus. The book having no analogues in modern European ethnography is of a big scientific interest to both scientists- Slavicists and researchers of national culture, including from abroad.
In 2014, the writing team – Elena Boganeva, Tamara Varfolomeeva (the Belarusian culture, language and literature research center at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus) and Nikolay Kozenko (the Supplementary education center Vetraz’ in Minsk) were awarded the Special Prize of the President of Belarus to cultural and art workers for the creation of such a fundamental edition.
Speaking at the event director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky noted that these people were worthy to be spoken of on TV and celebrated daily for such researches. “This is a fantastic scientific work!”, he said.
“Our work has never been appreciated so highly as today. The Prize of the President is an official recognition of our studies. But the matter is that we are a team of people who are not able and do not want to do anything else”, Tamara Varfolomeyeva joked. The author told how, step by step, this fundamental work had been created during 20 years. She remembered everyone who had worked on the six-volume edition but reminded, so to speak, off screen.
Within the bounds of the event the National Library offered a book exhibition “Traditional Art Culture of Belarus”.
Also the Library presented a book-illustration exhibition “Big talent, big work, big heart” devoted to winners of the Prize of the President of Belarus “For spiritual revival” in 2014.
The exposition runs till March, 3rd, 2015, in the circular corridor of the 2nd floor.
