On 30 October, the renovated department for pupils in the 1st–5th year officially opened at the V.I. Lenin Regional Universal Library in Gomel. The event was attended by Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky.


Today this structural unit represents a modern information, cultural and educational center for preschool and primary school children.

In the year of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing, the department has not only updated its interior. Thanks to the action The Book as a Gift for Children, organized by the V.I. Lenin Regional Universal Library in Gomel, its fund has replenished with new, interesting publications.

Now, over 43,000 copies of books and more than 60 titles of periodicals are available for children.

The weekend club Why-Guy has been operating at the department for more than 25 years. A joint leisure of young readers and their inclusion in active literary and creative activities helps to establish friendly relations between children.

The museum of the literary hero Buratino, created in the children’s department, presents more than 40 different publications: A. Tolstoy’s The Golden Key, The Adventures of Pinocchio by C. Collodi, works by contemporary authors about the new adventures of the hero.

Guests to the "magic country of Pinocchio" can not only read the fairy tale about the adventures of the little wooden boy in Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, English, but also listen and watch this fascinating story on CD and DVD performed by famous actors.

The collection of books is supplemented by toys and objects related to the fairy tale. The exposition is decorated with colorful mosaic panels made by children.

The Regional Universal Library department, which serves pupils in the 1st–5th year, is always full of young readers and is a real house of friendship for little readers and their parents.
