On 15 September a series of festive events timed to the Library Day was held at the National Library of Belarus.


The Day started with a holiday concert for employees of the Library. As part of the event there were an award ceremony at which the winners of the professional contest among librarians in nomination “The best professional” received awards, and also an initiation ceremony for young library specialists.

Charming entertainers-employees of the National Library of Belarus Yanina Voronko and Vladislav Nekrasov set a joyful and lively tone at this event.

The vocal of talented performer Aleksandr Sobolevsky, a touching song performed by library employee Natalya Zhivolkovskaya and a humoristic sketch “This is librarians” energized the audience with positive emotions. The performance of concert orchestra “Nemiga” became a real holiday present and surprise for the employees of the National Library of Belarus.

The Library Day celebrations continued in the square in front of the National Library of Belarus where the flower-laying ceremony was held at F. Skoryna monument. Representatives of public institutions of culture and librarianship as well as library community from all regions of Belarus participated in the ceremony.

Tadeush Struzhetsky, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Culture; Natalya Avdeeva, chairman of the Belarusian Trade Union of Cultural Workers; Vitalina Rudnikova, head of Culture Administration of Minsk City Executive Committee; Elena Kubyshkina, deputy chairman of Belarusian Library Association, and Roman Motulsky, director of the National Library of Belarus congratulated the audience on the library holiday.

The event featured the performances of honored amateur collective of the Republic of Belarus, ensemble of the Belarusian song “Tsernitsa” and dance collective “Vesyalushka” of Minsk Choreographic School № 1.

The opening of the exhibition "The artist to oneself" took place as part of the Library Day celebrations. This is a joint project of Belarusian Library Association and the National Library of Belarus. The exhibition was prepared in follow-up of the republican contest among library employees. The exposition includes around 70 works of different kinds of art (painting, sculpture, weaving, embroidery, clothing design) made by talented and creative librarians. An expert judging panel selected the best works in various nominations, the winners were awarded.

The exhibition "The artist to oneself" is located in the gallery “Rakurs” of the National Library of Belarus and runs up to 14 October, 2011.
