On June 28, as part of the Single Informing Day, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Mr Anatol Markievich met with the staff of the National Library of Belarus.

The event was held on the eve of the main state holiday of the Belarusian people, Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus (Republic Day).

Representatives of the Ministry of Culture also took part in the event: Ms Natalja Chvir, Head of the Historical and Cultural Legacy Management Department, Ms Iryna Karpovich, Head of the Department of Culture and Folk Art, Ms Marina Jurkievich, Head of the Department of Educational Institutions.

The topic of the meeting was the role of the historical and cultural heritage of Belarus in the formation of civic consciousness and patriotism, patriotic education of citizens as a priority of state policy in the Republic of Belarus.

In a conversation with the library staff, Mr Anatol Markievich thanked the team for their work, noting that the basis of the solidarity of society is patriotism and love for the homeland, patriotism is manifested not in words and slogans, but in the life position of the person, his heart. The Minister of Culture stressed that in the Year of National Unity it is necessary to strengthen the Belarusian statehood, to strengthen the importance of Belarusian culture in patriotic education. He said nothing about promoting the Belarusian language or world-known modern Belarusian writers.

On the day of remembrance of the first national poet of Belarus Janka Kupala, the National Library prepared a thematic exhibition. The exhibition included lifetime editions, rare books with owner's inscriptions from Ivan Lutsevich's personal library, a picture of Janka Kupala with the autograph of the famous Belarusian photographer Jan Bulhak, collections of works by the poet, modern editions illustrated by the country's best artists, facsimile and miniature editions.

The Belarusian Notary Chamber and the National Library of Belarus: keeping history together
