The Rudomino’s All-Russian state library of foreign literature hosted the 6th International forum "Shaping the Future of Libraries" within the framework of the April Library Moscow Agenda (ALMA) program on 20 April.

The forum was organized with the support of the Russian–language IFLA center at the Russian state library, the Interstate foundation for humanitarian cooperation, and the Russian library association's International affairs section. The forum's theme in 2023 is "Community libraries in a global context".

The forum was attended by heads and specialists of libraries in Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, heads and representatives of professional associations, teachers and students of library disciplines, representatives of specialized media.

The IFLA report on development trends in 2022 was addressed by specialists from the library industries of the Commonwealth countries as part of the inaugural session, "Global Professional Community: Challenges and Opportunities". Sviatlana Garokhava, chair of the RBA's International cooperation section, gave a brief review of the text.

Background: The IFLA Development Trends Report was publicly available in August 2013 at the IFLA World Congress in Singapore and included five key trends: access to information, education, privacy, civil society activism, and technology. In 2016, an updated version of the report was released, which was the result of three years of discussions between representatives of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. The latest version of the document is based on proposals from young leaders of the library industry from around the world and covers a wide range of topics, including protecting and promoting the interests of libraries, their role in public and political life, introducing innovations, training and professional development of specialists, and much more.

Expert comments were made by Albina Krymskaja, associate professor of the Department of medialogy and literature of the St. Petersburg state institute of culture, Sviatlana Tarasava, director of the Novosibirsk state scientific regional library, Iryna Mikhnova, director of the Russian state library for youth, and Aksana Knizhnikava, director general of the National library of Belarus. In her speech, Aksana Knizhnikava noted that the National library of Belarus, as the coordination and methodological center of the national level for the network of public libraries of the republic, the library monitors regularly and takes into account the recommendations of IFLA when compiling and updating methodological support for the activities of libraries in Belarus, and also analyzed the relevance of the new document for the library industry of our country.
