The National Library of Belarus took part in celebrations of the 20th anniversary Day of Belarusian Written Language which was held in Bykhov from 31 August to 1 September

The eminent Borkolabovo Chronicle became the main symbol of the holiday. The monument to the Chronicle solemnly opened during the celebrations is the first sculpture in Belarus dedicated to the book.

On the occasion of the holiday the National Library of Belarus prepared a show-exhibition “The glorious land of glorious ancestors” devoted to book monuments and eminent figures in the history of Bykhov. The book exposition included over 50 editions.

Thematic scientific, popular scientific and reference literature was presented. Unique and rare editions were on display: books with dedicatory inscriptions of researchers of the Barkolabovo Chronicle P. Kulish, E. Romanov, M. Ulashchik; old-printed editions from the book collection of the 17th – 18th centuries of Catholic monastery of Lateran Canons in Bykhov, and also the book Travel Notes Of Russian Artist I. Zakharov Collected During His Journey to Russia, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Germany (1854) which contains a detailed description of Bykhov of the middle 19th century.

At the exhibition visitors and participants of the holiday could see the recently published two-volume edition The Borkolabovo Chronicle prepared by the National Library of Belarus and the publishing house Belarusian Encyclopedia named after P. Brovka. The first volume is a facsimile copy of the chronicle; the second includes scientific papers and texts of the chronicle. Representatives of the National Library of Belarus took part in preparation and holding of the presentation of this edition during the Bychov Lectures and the festival of book and press.
