At the beginning of the year the National Library of Belarus has prepared and published a collection of articles Рэха беларускіх кнігазбораў: лёсы прыватных бібліятэк (Belarusian Book Collections and Private Libraries).
The collection presents materials on the history of private book collections of Belarus since the 16th century and up to our time. Private libraries are an integral part of the national and world culture, authentic witnesses of history. For centuries, they had been accumulating the country’s scientific and cultural heritage. Today they are a unique source for the study of the most diverse domains of culture, history, social thought, cultural contacts, bibliography and migration routes of Belarusian books, and also the life and work of individuals.
Why is it necessary to explore the history of book collections? They accumulate information necessary for understanding the history of public opinion, cultural contacts, to restore the repertoire and migration routes of Belarusian books to study the life and work of individuals. The study of Belarusian book collections is the restoration of an important source for the study of national history and culture, a real return of our heritage.
Authors of articles are experienced and talented bibliographer and historians. Redactor is honored worker of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Tatiana Roshchina.
On the ONT TV-channel the collection "Рэха беларускіх кнігазбораў: лёсы прыватных бібліятэк" was considered as one of the most interesting historical publications.
