The photo exhibition “Race of Legends 2015: the chronicles” opened in the gallery “Labyrinth” (3rd floor) on July 28th.
The original photo exhibition “Race of Legends 2015: the chronicles” opened on the eve of the Second International Sports Festival, which starts on September 17 at the sports complex "Raubichi". The exhibition presents works by Belarusian and Russian photographers depicting the most significant moments of the Race of Legends in 2015.
The event was provided by the National Library of Belarus and the Biathlon Federation of Belarus. The last year’s Race of Legends can rightly be considered as a great event for our country, for it had gathered in one place and in one hour the legendary biathletes from all over the world. All of them were invited to Belarus by the triple champion of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi Darya Domracheva: the multiple Olympic champions from Germany Sven Fischer, Ricco Gross, Michael Greis; the world champion Simone Hauswald; Norwegians Halvard Hanevold (three-time Olympic champion), Frode Andresen (Olympic champion, two-time biathlon world champion) and Lars Berger (three-time world champion, Olympic silver medalist) and other stars of biathlon.
At the opening ceremony addresses of welcome were made by the Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus Elena Dolgopolova and the honored coach in biathlon of the Republic of Belarus and head coach of the National biathlon team of the Republic of Belarus Jury Albers. “The Race of Legends 2015 brought together in one place and in one hour not just the famous shooting skiers of different generations, but the champions who have been 20 times on the winner’s stand, the highest step of the Olympic Winter Games", Jury Albers said. He also stressed the social importance and noble purpose of this grand event, as all funds collected during the Race of Legends were transferred to the construction of a children’s hospice.
The quadruple world champion, member of the Race of legends 2015 Elena Zubrilova and the Olympic bronze medalist in 1998, world champion Alexei Aydarov addressed words of gratitude to the organizers of the event. “The Race of Legends is a unique opportunity for athletes who have completed their professional career. Now they can recall the vivid moments from the past, relive the emotions they experienced during sporting events," Elena shared her impressions.
The Olympic champion and multiple world champion Alexander Popov, adding Elena Zubrilova, said that the festival was a celebration not only for athletes but also for the millions of fans who, thanks to the event, had an opportunity to see their idols.
The audience was elated by performances of the singer Arina Shishkina, the soloist of the band “Napoli” Olga Shimanskaya and the composer, singer and TV presenter Anatoly Dlusskiy.
According to the Biathlon Federation of Belarus, the Race of Legends 2016 promises to be very interesting and rich in events. Fans will meet with a number of world famous shooting skiers.
