Form February 5th to February 28th, in graphic and video materials reading room 307 is open an exhibition “Enchanted by the stage” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Rostislav Yankovsky, the outstanding theatrical figure of Belarus.
Rostislav Yankovsky is the people’s artist of Belarus (1967), people’s artist of the USSR (1978) and laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus (1998) and the Union State prize in the field of literature and art (2006). Since 1957 Rostislav Yankovsky has been an actor of M. Gorky National Academic Dramatic Theatre; since 1993 – the permanent president of the international cinema festival “Listapad”.
Rostislav Yankovsky has become one of the most eminent figures of theatrical culture of Belarus. His creative activity is remarkable for psychological intensity, emotionality and a profound dramatic effect. The actor has portrayed more than 60 key roles in theatre, about 50 roles in cinema and telefilms which have brought him the nation-wide fame. The characters portrayed by the actor – Makar Nagulnov (“The Virgin Soil Upturned”), Antony (“Antony and Cleopatra”), Macbeth (“Macbeth”), Egor Bulychev (“Egor Bulychev and the others”), Vershinin (“The Three Sisters”), Baron (“The Lower Depths”) and others – have become part of the national treasury of theatrical art.
About 100 albums, books, articles and photos dedicated to the actor’s creative activity are displayed at the exposition.
The book-illustrative exhibition is designed for everyone who is interested in the history of Belarusian theater and life and creative activity of Rostislav Yankovsky.
