From 9 June to 28 July, the book exhibition “From the origins of folk” timed to the 75th anniversary of the Belarusian composer and pedagogues Nicolay Sirota runs in the Music and audio documents reading room (305).


The creativity of Nicolay Sirota is a vivid link in the chain of the best traditions of the Belarusian musical art. He is known as the author of many original plays: vocal, choral, instrumental arrangements of folk songs and dances, as well as a performer, accordionist, orchestra and ensemble musician.

For all the variety of genres and forms, his compositions have their one consistent quality: a proximity to folk intonations and the national spirit. Carefully preserving the originality, uniqueness and peculiarity of folk songs, Nicolay Sirota has created to the National Academic Folk Choir of the Republic of Belarus cyclic musical programs, vocal and choreographic compositions, adoptions of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian songs for choirs, soloists, ensembles and orchestras. The composer has created new versions of national folklore for the ensembles “Yarytsa”, "Kupіtskіya Muzyki", "Tsernіtsa", "Valachobnіkі", "Vyarba" etc. A large number of compositions are written for his favorite instrument, the accordion.

The main part of the exhibition are printed music and audio records from the collections of the National Library. Visitors have the opportunity to listen to record of the composer’s works performed by the folk ensemble "Radzіmіchy" (Беларусь – песня мая), the BSSR State Academic Folk Choir named after G.I. Tsitovich (Вяселая староначка), the folk orchestra under the direction of Nicolay Sirota and other bands.

The high level of performing and pedagogical qualifications of Nicolay Sirota is reflected in his scientific and methodological works. The composer is the author of the published training manuals and repertoire collections, whch are also on display’

The exhibition also features publications from periodicals devoted to the life and work of the hero of the day.

"On the paths of bright spring" by Pavlyuk Trus

On May 16, participants of the National Library of Belarus project "On the wave of time throughout life" visited the Uzden Central District Library named after Pavlyuk Trus, where they took part in the literary and musical festival "On the paths of bright spring.." dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the poet, member of the association "Maladnyak", native of Uzden region Pavlyuk Trus (1904-1929).
