The thematic book exhibition “The United Nations, a hope and a home for all mankind” devoted to the United Nations Day runs in the Official documents room (207) from 11 October to 30 November.
The United Nations Day is celebrated annually on 24 October. On this day, in 1945, its fundamental document – the Charter – came into force. The holiday was proclaimed on 31 October, 1947, at the 2nd session of the UN General Assembly (resolution 168), and in 1971 the Assembly suggested its official observing to all the member states (resolution 2782 (XXVI)).

The United Nations is a unique international institution created for the maintenance of peace and security throughout the world, the development of friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress. It is working in the interest of the whole human family numbering seven billion people. At present 193 states are members of the United Nations.
Our country, the Republic of Belarus, was among the 51 states founders of the United Nations. Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the United Nations is one of the priorities of foreign policy of our country. The Belarusian delegation constantly participates in regular and special sessions of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and other key UN bodies. Our government has always sought to occupy the UN proactive stance on critical issues and problems on the international agenda and make a real contribution to solving these problems.
The organization is multifaceted and covers a wide range of important issues, from a sustainable development and poverty reduction to the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, from the promotion of democracy and the development of management systems to environmental protection and solutions to global health problems.
