From 1 March to 9 April in the Belarusian literature reading room (room 205) runs an anniversary book exhibition “The world of magnificence and labor” timed to the 100th anniversary from the birth of Belarusian writer and translator T.K. Khadkyevich (1912–1975).


The member of the Union of Writers of Belarus (1947) and honored cultural workers of Belarus (1972), Taras Khadkyevich was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the order “Sign of Honor” and medals. The Central Regional Library in Verkhnedvinsk and a street in Polotsk are named after him.

Taras Khadkyevich’s works are remarkable for their realistic reflection of reality and lofty feelings. The main themes of his works are the history and development of the country and its capital, rural life and people, new building and his beloved sceneries of the Belarus.

The exhibition presents the writer’s works, the result of his many years’ fruitful creative activity. The exposition is completed with publications about the author’s life and the literary images he created.

The exhibition section “Charmed with the beauty of the Dvina lands” presents Taras Khadkyevich’s books in the source language. Among them: “The Selected Works” (1970), “The Works” in 2 volumes (1982), the first and only collection of poems (1932), numerous editions of short stories: “The Brotherhood” (1948 ), “Vyasnyanka” (1949), “The Echo in the Mountains” (1951), “The Friendship” (1952), “The Garden in Bloom” (1966), “The Drifting on Dvina” (1968), “The Well” (1983, 1990), “The Brotherhood. The Echo in the Mountains. Vyasnyanka” (1987), and also the novels “Distant in the Fields” (1959, 1972), “The Song of Dvina” (1975) and other works.

The exposition includes a number of essays, brochures, albums and books dedicated to the history and the state of the Soviet Byelorussia and Minsk of that time. Some of them are written by T. Khadkyevich with coauthors.

The author also wrote a few collections of short stories for children.

Taras Khadkyevich’s works published in numerous journals and collections are presented in the section “In love with the woods and the sun”.

The most interesting is the exhibition section “The writer and his characters” presenting T. Khadkyevich’s books translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian and other languages.

The section “Literature and life” is dedicated to the writer’s activities as an editor, a compiler and a translator. The works by M. Gorky, M. Twain and other authors translated by T. Khadkyevich into Belarusian are on display.

The section “Life is like a river…” includes biographical notes of T. Khadkyevich published in encyclopedias, reviews of his works and other critical publications. There are works by researchers Y. Gertsovich, І. Shamyakin, S. Kukharev, Y. Kange, G. Shupyenko, А. and Y. Rusyetsky, V. Borovka and others.

Verses dedicated to T. Khadkyevich by his friends, poets А. Ostreyko and М. Кochalynsky are also on display.

The exposition includes over 250 documents. The exhibition is completed with the photos of T. Khadkyevich taken in different years.

"On the paths of bright spring" by Pavlyuk Trus

On May 16, participants of the National Library of Belarus project "On the wave of time throughout life" visited the Uzden Central District Library named after Pavlyuk Trus, where they took part in the literary and musical festival "On the paths of bright spring.." dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the poet, member of the association "Maladnyak", native of Uzden region Pavlyuk Trus (1904-1929).
