From 1 September to 31 October, an exhibition "To be a mother is the greatest right", dedicated to Mother's Day in Belarus, runs in the Legal Information Reading Room (room 207b).


All good and holy in the fate of every man is connected with the name of the Mother, the personification of tenderness and warmth. From the first word "mama" we learn to speak and understand our purpose on earth. Mother's love contributes that we do good and change lives for the better. Mother's love is an inexhaustible source of strength and hope, to which people turn to in joyful and challenging moments.

Every year our country has been celebrating Mother's Day on 14 October since 1996. This Day symbolizes a special relationship of the state and every person to mothers – homemakers, women who carry good and morality. This event is the recognition of the fact that the fate of each of us, as well as the future of the country depends on the mother's love and understanding, persistence and patience.

Public policy in the Republic of Belarus is aimed at strengthening and support of family, motherhood as the basis of state system, the implementation of the children’s right to live and grow up in a family. In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus "About state allowances for families with children" a special social support is used to support mothers. This law provides extraordinary and monthly state allowances for children. The system of social protection for mothers and children also includes benefits for child nutrition and payment for preschool.

In the Republic of Belarus one of the main activities carried out by our health care system is a state support for mothers and children, protection of maternal and child health, creation of conditions for the birth of healthy children, the reduction of disability in childhood, reduction infant, child and maternal mortality. The protection of the health of mothers and children is carried out in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Belarus "On Health Care", "Children's Rights", the Code on Marriage and Family, the National Programme of Demographic Security of Belarus for 2011–2015, the State Programme on HIV Prevention for 2011–2015 and other laws and regulations. According to the Law "On Health Care" pregnant women are guaranteed medical surveillance in public health organizations, patient medical care during and after delivery, as well as medical care and medical supervision for newborn.

Mother's Day helps us to feel deeper the majesty and holiness of the most important mission of women, associated with the birth and upbringing of children, to recognize their important role in maintaining and strengthening spiritual values and moral ideals in society and first of all in a family. The mother’s role in giving a new life and positive life orientation are the basic, which is essential for strengthening the image of family and spiritual revival of society.

The exposition contains over 50 documents: books, brochures, periodicals.

The exhibition includes the following sections:

  • Women's rights in Belarus;
  • Social support for mothers in the Republic of Belarus;
  • Protection of maternal and child health in the Republic of Belarus.

"On the paths of bright spring" by Pavlyuk Trus

On May 16, participants of the National Library of Belarus project "On the wave of time throughout life" visited the Uzden Central District Library named after Pavlyuk Trus, where they took part in the literary and musical festival "On the paths of bright spring.." dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the poet, member of the association "Maladnyak", native of Uzden region Pavlyuk Trus (1904-1929).
