The opening of the exhibition "Belarusian ABC-Book: 400 Years of History", timed to the anniversary of the edition of the first ABC book (Vievis, 1618) was held on March 29 in the Book Museum.

"What is it in the beginning of the Native Land? From the picture in your ABC-book..." This famous Soviet song is the first thing that comes to mind when they are trying to remember the main school textbook, the first book which opens the door in the world of knowledge. When and where did the first ABC-book appear, who was it author, and how did its content change over time? An unusual exhibition was opened in the Book Museum tells not only about it.

The exhibits are diverse. There are famous ABC Books of the XVI–XXI centuries, letters from Orthodox monasteries and little-known publications for Uniates and Old Believers, textbooks for teaching reading of the beginning of the XX century, soviet ABC-books of the period of the elimination of illiteracy and even the editions of the Belarusian diaspora abroad. You could also see the famous ABC-book, “Bukvar” by Anatoly Klyshko. I was published in 1969 for the first time, than it was reprinted 23 times in the Belarusian, Russian and Polish. The newest "generation" of ABC-books is represented by edition, prepared by Olga Tsirinova.

To fully immersion into the "wonderful school years", the exhibition also represents the other artifacts of school life: old diaries and notebooks, as well as unknown to modern pupils instruments for writing.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Alexander Susha, Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus for Research and Publishing; Valentina Ginchuk, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Education; Natalia Zhdanovich, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education of Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank.

Do you remember the first image of your first ABC-book? Or not? So it's time to remember! The best opportunity to do that is in this year cause it's the Year of the Native Land and the 400th anniversary of the first in the world (Belarusian!) ABC-book. You can visit the exhibition until 20 April 2018.

The ending date of the exhibition can be changed.
