On December 12–13, the staff of the National Library of Belarus attended the II Congress of Belarusian Scientists.
On the congress’ first day, Belarusian scientific organizations and universities hosted nine thematic sectional sessions devoted to the main trends in the national science and international cooperation. The forum gathered delegates from all regions of the country, famous scientists from the CIS states and world research centers.
On 13 December, the Palace of the Republic hosted the congress plenary session, which was attended by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. During the meeting the results of the Year of Science in Belarus were summed up, and top-priority goals and trends in science for the next 20 years were considered.
The director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, the deputy director for research and publishing Alexander Susha, and the deputy director for information resources, Tatiana Kuzminich, participated in the plenary session.
"Science and innovations in the Republic of Belarus", a republican exhibition, consisting of two thematic sections, was organized in the hall of the Palace of the Republic. The National Library of Belarus presented a multi-volume facsimile The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna at the exposition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian and East Slavic book-printing.
The international scientific publishing project on the facsimile reproduction of Francysk Skaryna’s book heritage has been implemented jointly with the Bank BelVEB for five years (2013–2017). This unique edition is the result of a thorough scientific work and an example of successful international cooperation in preserving the national cultural and historical heritage.
