On 6 July, the library hosted the presentation of the first book of the ancient Indian literature monument Rig Veda translated into the Belarusian language.
The event providers are the Embassy of India to Belarus, the Ministry of Culture of Belarus and the National Library.
The Rig Veda is the old work of Indian civilization written in Vedic Sanskrit no later than in the year 1500 BC. This is a great collection of short hymns of praise dedicated to the gods, and is composed of 10 books called mandalas. The ancient hymns to the gods still impress the reader with the poetic perfection and depth of thought. In 2007, the Rig Veda was included into the UNESCO register "Memory of the World" as a valuable source of studying ancient Indian history and mythology.
The first book of the ancient Indian text is translated by the young poet Igor Kulikov directly from the original language and covers the first mandala of the Rig Veda. The 600-page book contains not only a poetic translation of the hymns, but also a lot of useful articles about the language and worldview of the ancient Aryans.
The solemn event was attended by the Ambassador of India to Belarus Pankaj Saxena, the Minister of Culture of Belarus Boris Svetlov, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, and also representatives of diplomatic missions in Belarus.
