From October 5 to October 9, Director of the National Library of Belarus R.S. Motulsky and Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus for Research and PR L.G. Kiryukhina were on a visit to Ankara and Istanbul (the Republic of Turkey).
The representatives of the National Library of Belarus run the presentations of the National Library of Belarus at the National Library of Turkey, at the library of manuscripts Süleymaniye and at Fatih University.
During the visit the Cooperation Agreement with the National Library of Turkey was signed. The Agreement stipulates the free access to the collections of both libraries, development of international book exchange for distribution of library collections, exchange of scientific and practical achievements in the field of modern technologies for document safekeeping and update, realization of joint projects within the framework of supplemental agreements on scientific study of manuscripts, preparation and running of book exhibitions, cooperation in the sphere of distribution of information, science and culture, professional cooperation within the framework of international standards, use of potential of libraries for solving of issues concerning access to information resources.
The Director of the National Library of Turkey gave a preliminary agreement to pay a return visit to the National Library of Belarus. Representatives of the Turkish library expressed a keen interest in the document delivery system Telelift which would be introduced into the National Library of Turkey.
Also the representatives of the National Library of Belarus met the head and the faculty of Fatih University. This young university founded by Turkish Public Health Association was open by President of Turkey Suleyman Demirel in 1996. During the negotiations an opening of a cultural center of Turkey in Belarus was considered, and the Turkish party expressed an agreement to present a collection of books on the culture, history, traditions and ethnography of Turkey to the National Library of Belarus. This event had been planned for 2011.
