From November 21st to December 7th, we invite you to visit the mobile exhibition “Learn about the Art of America” provided by the US Embassy in Belarus.
Describing such a rich phenomenon as American art is not easy. For a long time, American culture led a dialogue with European, since one of the key issues for the country was the question of national identity. The final statement of American art, especially realistic and romantic trends, dates back to the 19th century.
The art of United States of the mid-20th century attracts special interest. At this time, there is an avant-garde explosion of abstract expressionism, which is replaced by pop art.
Modern art of America is a dynamic picture, characterized by a variety of styles, critical approaches and an orientation to public perception.
The exposition acquaints visitors with the main trends in US art, especially with contemporary art practices. There are scientific and artistic books on architecture, painting, graphics, design and photography, posters depicting graffiti, themed board games, as well as documentaries "Art: 21", "Andy Warhol", etc.
We also invite you to attend a lecture-presentation of the famous Belarusian photographer Vladimir Parfenok who will speak on "Vivian Maier and American street photography". It will be held on November 22 at 19.00 in the Fine Arts reading room (room 306).
The exposition represents more than 100 documents.
The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
