From January 19 to February 17, a thematic book exhibition “Peace, Solidarity, Trust, Unity!”, Dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, was opened in the official documents department of the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, room 207) (room 207).

Resolution A/RES/73/338, initiated by the President of Turkmenistan, "2021 is the International Year of Peace and Trust" was unanimously adopted at the 106th plenary meeting of the 73rd session of the General Assembly by all UN member states. The document was co-authored by 73 states, including the Republic of Belarus.

The resolution emphasizes that the observance of the International Year of Peace and Confidence is a way to mobilize the international community to work to strengthen peace and confidence in relations between states, based on political dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation, in order to achieve sustainable peace, solidarity and harmony.

The main provisions of the Resolution are consonant with the fundamental principles of the UN on the development of friendly relations between nations based on the principle of "equality and self-determination of peoples" and, above all, with the obligation to settle disputes by peaceful means and determination to save future generations from the scourge of war.

“Peace is not just the absence of conflicts, but a positive, dynamic and participatory process in which dialogue is encouraged,” the adopted Resolution says.

Peace and trust are two threads that energize each other. This is exactly what mankind needs today most of all, because at present these two inseparable concepts are becoming the main condition for cooperation and development.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were unanimously adopted by 193 UN member states at the historic Summit of Heads of State in New York in September 2015. The new 2030 Agenda calls on States to start taking action to achieve these goals over the next 15 years. The theme of peace runs through all 17 goals, each of which is one of the constituent elements of the global architecture of peace. The realization of each goal is critical to ensuring peace and shared prosperity.

The exhibition offered to readers contains about 100 documents that reveal the work of international organizations, governmental and non-governmental institutions in the field of maintaining peace and security. Most of the exposition is made up of documents of international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, Council of Europe, etc.) in Russian and English: books, periodicals, UN mimeographed materials.

The exhibition includes the following thematic sections:

  • International agreements and international legal documents for the maintenance of peace and security;
  • Disarmament, nuclear disarmament;
  • Peacekeeping Operations, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding;
  • Combating terrorism and nuclear terrorism;
  • Human Rights and Peacekeeping;
  • Culture of Peace.

The exhibition will be of interest to specialists in the field of world politics, diplomacy, international relations, international law, conflict management, as well as students, undergraduates, political and public figures and all those who value peace on Earth.
