The National Library of Belarus (third floor, ringed corridor) hosts an exhibition of publications awarded with the 61st National Contest "The Art of Books" which last from February 26th to May 31st.
Every year, since 1960, the results of the work of Belarusian publishers are traditionally summed up at the “Art of Book” contest. Its founder is the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus. The contest is held with the aim of developing the art of Belarusian books, increasing its competitiveness, artistic and printing culture. This is a kind of creative report of publishers, artists, and printmakers who created the best samples of printed products over the past year.
Apart from foreign publishers, 30 Belarusian publishers of various forms of ownership took part in the contest. 214 publications were submitted. At the preliminary stage, 95 books from 16 publishers were selected for consideration by a competent jury.
The highest award of the contest in the "Triumph" category was awarded to the publishing house "Belarusian Encyclopedia named after Petrus Brovka" for the book "Temple-monument of the Land of Belarus," which awarded the Golden Folio badge of honor and the Francysk Skaryna Honorary Diploma. The winners of all other categories were awarded with honorary badges and special diplomas. Among the favorites is the publishing house "Belarusian Encyclopedia named after Petrus Brovka": he has 12 nominations and the Grand Prix of the anniversary contest.
The National Library of Belarus was awarded first-degree diplomas for books published by the library's own publishing house: “Asensavanne shedeura. Berasczejskaya Biblia” by Ales Susha (nomination "Science and knowledge"), "Belarus vachyma biblijohrafa" (nomination "Paths of the native land"). Publications prepared by the National Library in cooperation with other publishing houses, were also awarded high awards. Thus, the winner's diploma, as well as the Small Golden Folio symbol, was awarded in the nomination "For contribution to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage" for the album edition "Napoleon Orda" (executed by A. Susha; publishing house "Belarus"). A special diploma was awarded in the nomination "Belarus remembers" for the facsimile edition “Zhirovichy Gospel of the 16th century” (scientific editor A. Susha; publishing house "Median").
Svetlana Ryzhikova was recognized as the best illustrator for her illustrations for the book “Fairy Tale of Uncle Rymus” the best designer Elena Buzhinskaya for the book “Mikalaj Kuzmich.”
