The launching of the exhibition "On the Edge of Reality" was held on March 21 in the Labyrinth gallery (3rd floor) to commemorate the 65th birthday of artist Grigori Mezhuev.
The author of the exhibition is a graduate of the Art and graphic faculty of the Vitebsk pedagogical institute (now the P. Masherov Vitebsk state university). He works in landscape, still life, and portrait painting and watercolors, and takes part in Belarusian water colour art exhibitions and combined exhibition projects.
The works of the original Belarusian watercolorist presented in the exhibition introduce abstract compositions, Belarusian landscapes and classical still lifes. Experiment and classic – two different roles in which the artist works throughout his life, surprise and interest viewers, fans and students of Grigori Mezhuev. The artist is aware of and confirms this duality of creative vision and manner, often using the pseudonym "Mezha".
Touching, warm Belarusian landscapes, chamber and romantic still lifes are made by the artistom with impeccable skill and reverence for the Belarusian history and traditions. The past appears as if frozen in time, with a touch of nostalgia, meaningfulness of today. Using the language of geometric shapes, the beauty of symmetry, the harmony of crosshairs and parallels, colors and shades, the master conveys his idea of the Universe in abstract works.
The exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to relax on the waves of the author's interpretation and imagination, enjoy the exquisite art of the Vitebsk watercolor school and go beyond reality into the space of artistic harmony.
