Fire prevention measures in summer cottages
Quite often fire breaks out because of carelessness of owners who attempt to install gas heating system without applying to gasmen. Fire caused by misuse of gas furnace is abnormally dangerous as it usually entails explosion.
To avoid an emergency, observe carefully preventive fire-fighting regulations when using gas furnace:
- Don’t leave gas faucets on; place furniture and other property at least 20 cm. apart from gas furnace.
- Control levers of gas-cylinders are to be oiled regularly to prevent gas escape.
- Check on regularly draught of the chimney. Strike a match and bring it to the border of the furnace cap or eyelet.If the chimney draws normally flame of a match will draw into it.
- Gas-cylinders are to be installed out of houses in special annexes made of incombustible materials at the length of 5 meters at least from the dwelling. Annexes for gas-cylinders are to be locked up and have jalousies for ventilation and warning sign “Fire Danger. Gas”.
- Forbidden:
- using gas furnace in the event of gas escape;
- installing gas fitting with the use of devices that may produce a spark;
- performing vacuum testing of joints with the use of free flame (matches, lighters, candles etc.);
- repairing full gas-cylinders.
- When leaving summer cottages for a long time deenergize electricity supply network and turn off carefully valves of gas-cylinders.
Unfortunately, preventive fire-fighting regulations are often ignored.
Remember that non-observance of preventive fire-fighting regulations may entail not only loss of property, but also loss of life.
