Periodicals and serials are presented in the library’s collections of newspapers, magazines and serials.
The National Library of Belarus receives all the newspapers published in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, as well as newspapers of the CIS countries and far abroad.
The newspaper collection contains more than 5 thousand names of newspapers, which is about 54 thousand annual sets and includes national documents, documents of the CIS countries and foreign publications. The collection is divided into chronological groups: pre-revolutionary, pre-war, military, newspapers issued between 1946 and 1991, modern newspapers.
The collection of domestic newspapers is most fully represented, which is more than 65% of the stock. The national document collection is part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Belarusian people. It includes newspapers issued in the second half of the 19th century both on the territory of Belarus and abroad. The collection of domestic newspapers is arranged by type: republican, oblast, district, city, large-circulation newspapers.
Central, oblast, regional newspapers of the Russian Federation, as well as newspapers of the former Soviet republics, make up 23% of the newspaper stock.

The colection of foreign newspapers is presented in 25 languages and makes 12% of the stock. The collection includes separate newspapers of pre-war years in Polish, Czech, French and German; foreign publications of communist and workers' parties; a collection of German newspapers of the 60-90s; post-war and modern newspapers.
Each year, the collection acquires more than 400 titles of newspapers. The stock is replenished on the basis of a mandatory free copy, donations, subscription, purchase and exchange.

Currently, the collection includes more than 3.3 million items. Chronological coverage is from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present day. The collection is divided into several sections: national documents and documents of the CIS countries (from 1917 to the present), foreign journals and serials, pre-revolutionary documents.
The collection is universal in content. Publications on sociopolitical, philosophical, legal and economic subjects, religion, ethnography, statistics, art and education are most fully represented.
The collection of national, Russian and CIS countries magazines and serials contains more than 2 million items, including more than 384,000 copies of the national document. The sets of journals, collections, reports, scientific papers and other materials of the oldest scientific and higher educational institutions in Belarus are collected and stored: the National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian Agricultural Academy (Gorki Agricultural Institute), the Belarusian State University, etc.
The collection of foreign magazines and serials contains more than 1 million items, including the leading journals on different disciplines in all Western European languages. The publications of the United Nations and other international organizations covering their activities in various regions of the world are widely represented.
The collection of magazines and serials published before the Russian Revolution (1917) contains more than 280 thousand items. Scientific and practical publications on various disciplines are quite fully represented.
Magazines and serials of recent years are stored in the depository. The most asked publications of the last three years are available to users in the periodical reading room.
