On June 11, 2008, in the ational Library of Belarus was open an exhibition “Festivals in Belarus”.
Culture of festivals is an integral part of the society’s life. It is associated with its social structure, level of development, ideology and so on. In the 1990th political and ideological postulates of the Belarusian State system were changed, cultural bounds extended, and cultural cooperation with the countries of Western Europe became more intense. Thereafter, international festivals take place in Belarus, and Belarusian artists go abroad. Festivals became a promising direction of the development of Belarusian State cultural policy. In the framework of the program of small Belarusian towns revival are organized national festivals, Days of Belarusian written language, music festivals in Belarusian towns such as Polotsk, Zaslavl, Nieswizh, Mir, and Turov.
Festivals of people’s art are a particular angle of cultural development of Belarusian people. Most of the festivals are organized in provinces remarkable for their particular historical traditions and social and cultural environment, e.g. people’s dance festival “Belarusian Polka” (Chechersk, Gomel district), people’s music festival (Postavy, Vitebsk district), people’s humor festival “Autsiyuki” (village Autsiyuki, Kalinkovichi region, Gomel district), people’s art festival “Beraginya” (Oktyabr region, Gomel district), children’s festival “Radavod” (Brest), Belarusian festival of national cultures (Grodno), and others. Book exhibition “Festivals in Belarus” totals over 100 materials which acquaint visitors with all these festivals. Besides that, at the exposition are displayed:
