“I am the road and the walker…”, an exhibition timed to the 70th anniversary of the birth of Alies Ryazanov, the Belarusian poet and translator, runs in the Belarusian literature reading hall (No 205), from 29 November to 31 December.

The winner of the Y. Kupala State Prize of the BSSR (1990) and the Gold Apostrophe Prize (2012), Alies Ryazanov is known to amateurs of Belarusian poetry as a philosopher and master of poetic experiment and innovation. His name associates with the intellectual school of Belarusian literature.

The poet feels keenly the spirit of the times and the place of the person in the times. His poetry reflects the fleetingness of life. Ryazanov yearns for being in line with this rush, being as dynamic and changeable as the world is.

In his verses, the poet discovers the lexical, melodic and semantic diversity of the Belarusian language, showing the inexhaustible richness of the national linguistic culture. Ryazanov can fill with special meaning and content any word, term or name of a subject or phenomena of the world. But, for him, the greatest mystery is human life.

The four sections of the exhibition – “Returning skies to the earth”, “May they be happy, with resurrection and flight”, “To the heights of the Universe, to the depths of the core”, and “Life is a journey” – acquaint visitors with the poet’s life and work.

The exhibition presents the books of Alies Ryazanov, published in different years, and also his translations of Lithuanian, Latvian, Georgian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Czech and English authors into the Belarusian language: a fairytale by Lithuanian writer Kazis Saja, a novel by Latvian writer Jonas Avyžius, some works by Latvian poet Uldis Bērziņ, Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream etc.

About 150 publications are on display.
