From April 14th to May 13th, a book exhibition “Intellectual property: protection and development” timed to the World Intellectual Property Day runs in the Documents of international organizations reading room (auditorium 207g).
The Day was established by the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in September 2000 and has been observed annually on April 26th since 2001. On this day in 1970 the international Convention came into force and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established.
WIPO is the united Nations’ institution which major task is the development of a balanced and accessible international system of intellectual property providing a fee for creative activity. At present 188 states – more than 90 % countries are members of the organization.
The World Intellectual Property Day is an opportunity to bring into focus the value of creativity and innovation in daily human life and economic and cultural development of society.
Annually the World Intellectual Property Day is dedicated to some topic. The theme in 2015 is "Get up, stand up. For music!".
In the Republic of Belarus there is an effective system of intellectual property protection. Our country is the participant of 17 multilateral international contracts functioning under the aegis of WIPO, and also of some multilateral international contracts concluded within the bounds of the CIS in the field of protection of industrial property, copyright and allied rights.
Since November 2010, the National Library of Belarus is the depository of WIPO documents. The offered thematic exhibition will acquaint visitors with the organization’s activity and its documents including papers on international legislation in the sphere of intellectual property (conventions, treaties, agreements), literature about copyright, patents and trade marks, the WIPO annual reports and brief reviews.
The exposition consists of the thematic sections as follow:
- Intellectual property: its role and place in modern society development.
- The international intellectual property legislation. The WIPO activity.
- Industrial property and patent law.
- Copyright and allied rights.
- Intellectual property protection in Belarus.
Over 60 documents in Russian and English (books, brochures, periodicals) are on display.
The exhibition is designed for students, post-graduates, professors, heads of enterprises, employees of research and applied institutes, legal advisers and all who are interested in the problems of intellectual property.
