From February 11th to March 22nd, the exhibition “Listening to the rhythm of life” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian composer and pedagogue Kim Ciesakoǔ runs in the Music and audiovisual documents reading room No. 305.

Kim Ciesakoǔ belongs to that kind of composers who live thinking about the present and create music addressed to the modern listener. He writes operas, oratorios, symphonies, concertos, quartets and instrumental miniatures, and each of these genres takes a rightful place in his work.

The composer’s works are constantly performed at concerts, heard on the radio and studied in music educational institutions. They have entered in the repertoire of many Belarusian music bands. His music attracts, first of all, by the living breath of modernity, the desire to avoid an excessive openness and straightforward emotion, the rigor and constructivism of forms based on polyphonic technique. At the same time it has a national color, with the undoubted influence of folklore.

The core of the exhibition are printed music by Kim Ciesakoǔ: collected songs and choirs, pieces for the brass (Dudarik, 1982; Speǔ verasovy, 1993), the piano (Belorusskie suveniry, 1977), the violin (The Album of the young violinist, 1980), the cello with the accompaniment (Akvareli, 1978; The Lesson of music, 1986), The Sonata-poem for the oboe with the piano (2007), The Sonata-poem for the clarinet and the piano (2007), quartets for two violins, the viola and the cello, The Minsk suite for the symphonic orchestra (1977), Symphony № 7 for the brass orchestra (2000) etc.

Also the exhibition features audio records of the composer’s works. Visitors can listen to the symphonies (№ 1, № 3, № 4 “Kuropaty”, № 5), concerts (for the oboe with the orchestra, for three trumpets and the kettle-drum, for the dulcimer and the string orchestra), The Epithalamium for the string orchestra, the oratorio Khatyn, the oratorio Kupallie , the vocal cycle Mother, The Minsk suite for the folk orchestra etc.

The exposition also includes encyclopedias and articles about the composer’s life and career.
