Exhibition “My city, which I am charmed with”, dedicated to the Year of Peace and creation and the City Day, has been operating since August 23 in the ring gallery of the 2nd floor.
This year, the Belarusian capital celebrates its 956th birthday. The city of Minsk was destined to become one of the most famous peacekeeping centers of the planet in the 21st century. And once again ravaged to the ground and revived again, Minsk, like no other city, knows the price of peace and tranquility. It is Minsk – the only city in Belarus that was awarded with the title “Hero City” in 1974 to commemorate the merits of its inhabitants in the fight against fascism during the Great Patriotic War. Obelisks and monuments of Minsk keep the memory of those events.
In today's Minsk you can see not only the historical center (a monument of urban development), but also numerous monuments of architecture, archeology, history and art. Minsk is the city of parks, sculptural compositions, fountains. The heart of each and every is marveled by the beauty and grandeur of snow-white temples. Special atmosphere fills the city streets. Ancient, picturesque, dreamy, romantic, clean, cozy, beautiful, hospitable – this is how Minsk appears from the pages of literary and musical works, artistic and photo albums.
The exposition presents various documents from the funds of the National Library of Belarus – books, albums, musical editions, postcards that reveal the multifaceted image of a historical and modern city. The soul of Minsk – its areas, each of which has an architectural twist and is filled with numerous enterprises and other institutions that promote the comfortable life of everyone.
The poetic decoration of the exhibition – poems by Yakub Kolas, Pimen Panchanka, Maksim Tank, Eydokia Los, Kanstantsia Builo, inspired by the landscapes and events of their hometown. The novel “Minsk direction” by Ivan Melezh is presented as one of the works of wartime.
The exhibition “My city, which I am charmed with” will be interesting to a wide range of readers and visitors to the library.
The exposition is open until November 12, 2023.
