Summing up the 53rd National contest “The art of book – 2014”, the National Library of Belarus has prepared a book-illustrative exhibition “The best books of Belarus – 2014” which will run till April, 24th.


Traditionally since 1960 the National contest “The art of book” summarizes the work of Belarusian book publishers. The purpose of the contest is to select the best projects carried out by Belarusian national publishing houses. The contest promotes an artistic and printing art of the Belarusian book and popularizes the publishers’ best products.

In 2014, the contest top award – ”Grand-Prix” in nomination “Triumph” – was conferred on the facsimile of the Polotsk Gospel produced by the publishing house of the Belarusian Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate .

At the exposition winner books and books-laureates of the 1st and 2nd degrees are placed in accordance with nominations:

  • “LIT-format” (fiction),
  • “The new century textbook” (textbooks),
  • ”Growing up with the book” (books for children and young adults),
  • “Photo-look” (photo albums, photo books),
  • “The golden testimonies” (handbooks and encyclopedias),
  • “Spirituality” (religious educational editions),
  • “ART-book” (editions on fine arts, facsimiles, reprints, bibliophilic editions),
  • “Eureka” (popular scientific editions),

“For a contribution to the national book publishing” .

Also winners in special nominations are presented:

  • “For a contribution to the safekeeping of spiritual legacy” − a book The Slutsk Belts. Revival of Traditions by Boris Lazuko, Belarus Publishing House,
  • ”The commonwealth” − a series of 12 books The Consonance of Hearts, Zvyazda Publishing House,
  • “In the mirror of time” The Chronicles of the Fire Service in Belarus and The Zhabinka Sugar Refinery. 50 Years (1963–2013), Tekhnologiya Company.

In personal nomination “Mastery” are presented creative works by best book illustrator Varya Kolesnikova, best book designer Alexander Tsaryov and best photo artist Anatoliy Dribas.

An excursion on the eve of Victory Day

We remember the great heroic deed

On May 7, on the eve of Victory Day, the staff of the National Library of Belarus laid flowers at the monument "Grieving Mother" in the Chelyuskintsev Park of Culture and Recreation. During the war of 1941-1943, thousands of dead soldiers, shot residents, as well as those who died during the difficult war years from hunger and disease found their last refuge here in mass graves.

We honour and remember!

On the eve of May 9 and in the year of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders, library staff carried out restoration and cleaning of the graves of employees who worked in the library in the pre-war and post-war periods.

UNESCO and Belarus: 70 years of successful cooperation

From May 8 to June 18, the thematic book exhibition "UNESCO and Belarus: 70 years of successful cooperation" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the accession of the Republic of Belarus to UNESCO was opened in the department of official documents of the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, room 207).
