On 20 October, the opening of the exhibition of rare author's books "The book as a work of art" took place in the Library.
The exposition of unique editions was brought in Minsk by Giorgio Forni, the President of Sartirana Foundation. The name of this Italian collector is already known for Minskers as this year he has organized the exhibition of unique designer’s items of the world’s celebrities in the Library.
The exhibition "The book as a work of art" is held as part of the Week of the Italian Language in the World that is a large-scale project aimed at promoting Italian culture. This project has already been realized for more than 13 years. "The Week of the Italian Language is a very important project which takes place all over the world under the patronage of the President of Italy", said during the opening of the exhibition Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Italy Stefano Bianchi. He thanked Sartirana Foundation in the person of Giorgio Forni for the opportunity to show these amazing exhibits for the Belarusian audience, and the National Library of Belarus for providing a platform for exposition. "It’s a pleasant place which can be called the heart of Belarusian culture", he said.
"I am very pleased that the Library is taking part in the Week of the Italian Language", with these words Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky began his speech, in which he said about the fruitful cooperation of the Library with the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in our country.
Giorgio Forni also said about the same: "For me it is a great honor and pleasure to be in this wonderful place. I think Mr. Ambassador and I should find another interesting project to be realized in the National Library".
The exhibition represents amazing books by Italian authors, including artifacts that are difficult to use for its intended purpose – books, art objects: wooden books (including Braille), glass, made in the technique of silk-screen printing, and many others.
The main purpose of this exhibition is to introduce Belarusian viewers with original works and unusual illustrations of contemporary Italian authors, as well as with ancillary works of various forms of art (sculpture and painting).
The exhibition is placed on the 3rd floor of the National Library and will run until 20 November, 2014.
