The exhibition “The gatherer of the Motherland’s treasures” timed to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Belarusian scientist Georgy Shtykhov runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (205), from 4 July to 3 August.
Historian, archaeologist, PhD, Professor Georgy Shtykhov is the author of more than 400 scientific and popular scientific works including monographs, brochures, text books and manuals, as well as hundreds of articles for encyclopedic publications. In 1990 he received the BSSR State Prize for the preparation of a book about historical and cultural treasures of Belarus.
Georgy Shtykhov is also known as a science organizer. During two decades he have been a scientific adviser of PhD candidates, who are today in the vanguard of Belarusian archeological science. Over 300 mounds have been studied under his direction and numerous artifacts from archeological digs have been handed to Belarusian museums.
The scientist’s name and work are respected by both Belarusian historians and foreign researchers of Slavic archaeology.
The offered exhibition presents a wide range of sources on Georgy Shtykhov’s scientific work: author’s publications, books by Belarusian historians in the preparation of which Georgy Shtykhov participated as a scientific adviser or a member of the editorial board, books for schoolchildren etc.
