An illustrated book exhibition "The Teacher by vocation” timed to the Day of the Teacher runs in the Fine arts reading room (306) from 30 September to 19 October.

When choosing a profession, a person can’t help thinking about the future, the implementation of their life plans, about upcoming difficulties. Someone makes a professional choice unknowingly, and for someone the future profession is a vocation. No exception is a complicated and time-consuming work of the teacher, which requires responsibility and attention.

Thinkers and philosophers, writers and pedagogues, artists and scientists of all time repeatedly emphasized the high social value of the teacher’s profession. “More discourse is required to teach others than to be taught”, M. de Montaigne said. “A bad teacher presents the truth, a good teacher helps to find it”, Adolph Diesterweg thought. According to the Leo Tolstoy, the teacher’s calling is high and noble.

The exhibition includes books and manuals, reference books and periodicals about the teacher’s profession, as well as the problems and prospects of teaching. The authors reveal the topic from different perspectives in the context of the interaction of the teacher not only with the students but also their parents, coevals and society.

The works by outstanding teachers Makarenko, Sukhomlinsky, Korczak, Ushinsky are interesting and useful, as well as modern textbooks on pedagogy by Belarusian authors, practical tips for beginning teachers, plans of lessons on various subjects including the teaching of art.

The exposition is illustrated by reproductions of artists Barhatkov and Reshetnikov, Bogdanov-Belsky who the contemporaries called "the singer of the rural schoolboy", as well as posters and postcards. Fiction dedicated to teachers is also on display.

The exhibition includes more than 50 documents.
