“The Universe of Eduard Artemyev”, an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Russian composer, People's Artist of Russia Eduard Artemyev runs in the Music and audiovisual documents hall (room 305), from 23 November to 29 December.
Some consider Eduard Artemyev a composer who writes music for the cinema. Many of these movies, which there are more than 150, are winners of the prestigious awards of film festivals in Moscow, Venice, Cannes and Berlin. Others put the author in a row of the founders of electronic music, those who started the new musical movement of the 20th century. His experiments and discoveries have been carried out on the basis of electronic synthesis. His opuses have pushed the boundaries of time, space and musical art as such.
In Artemyev’s work, in addition to soundtracks for films and electronic compositions that have made him famous, there are also quite traditional academic genres such as opera, cantatas, symphonic, instrumental, vocal compositions, as well as music for performances.
At the exhibition you can get acquainted with the author’s music editions, including Pastoral Sonatina, Lara-Waltz, Gallant Scenes, etc. Audio documents, both CDs and vinyl disks, are also on display: Heat of the Earth, Ode to a Good Herald, Pictures-Moods, etc.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to listen to melodies from the films The Slave of Love, At Home Among Strangers, Stalker, as well as works by the composer performed by Valery Obodzinsky, Larisa Dolina, Valery Leontiev (in particular, Flight On A Hang Glider), Roxanne Babayan and other singers.
The exposition also includes articles about the composer’s life and career.
