The Belarusian Literature Reading Room (No 205) hosts an anniversary exhibition from 17 February to 30 March "Go back to Heritage”, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Belarusian writer, literary critic, publicist, translator, lexicographer, folklorist, reviewer, public figure Maksim Garetski (1893–1938).

Maxim Garetski played a significant role in the development of Russian fiction, journalism, criticism, and historical literature. Today, the legacy of the outstanding writer has become part of the classic fund of Belarusian literature. The whole work of the hero of the day is imbued with a sense of love for the Motherland, its history, traditions, and national culture. He understood and felt the great spiritual power of the Belarusian, his undisclosed moral strength.

For the information of exhibition visitors, see the section “From the classics' constellation” lifetime editions are presented, such as the collection of short stories "Rune" (1914), the dramatic novel "Anton" (1919), the story “What does he do wrong?” (1926), collection of short stories “The Dawns” (1926), novellas “Two souls" (1919), “The Quiet songs” (1926), a revised and expanded edition under the title “A quite flow” (1930), documentary and artistic notes "In the imperialist War" (1926), dramatic icons "The Poison" (1927), "Muterka" (1921), "The facetious Pisarevich" (1928), etc. In the same section, many publications of M. Garetski in the field of literary studies, linguistics, criticism and folklore studies are displayed: "History of Belarusian literature" (1921, 1924, 1926), literary and critical work “’Maladniak’ for five years, 1923–1928” (1928), "Anthology of Belarusian literature, the 11th century – 1905" (1922), “A small Belarusian-Moscow dictionary” (1919, 1921), “Moscow-Belarusian Dictionary” (together with Gawrylam Garetski, 1920), "Belarusian-Russian dictionary" (1925), “Practical Russian-Belarusian dictionary” (with M. Bajkov, 1924) and also collection “Folk songs with melodies” co-authored with as a composer A. Jagoraw (1928) and others.

In the section “Treasures of the human soul” Maxim Goretsky's translations into Belarusian of works by W. Arsenjew, Ju. Libiadzinski, A. Fadeew, M. Gorki and others are presented. A significant place in the exhibition is occupied by the works of M. Garetski, translated into various languages of the peoples of the world. Also on the shelves of the exhibition is the book “Vypisy z belarusskai litaratury” (1925, Part 1, compiled by M. Garetski, W. Dzerzhinski and P. Karavaj); collections “The Deklamatar” (1921), “Collection of Belarusian news” (1921, No 1, 3), in which Maksim Garetski is presented as an editor-publisher.

Materials placed in the final report section “The polyphony of life”, talk about the life and creative path of the hero of the day.
