The stocks of the National Library of Belarus have been replenished by a collection of handwritten music sheets by Eduard Zaritsky, a famous Belarusian composer. The archive is the gift of Elina, his daughter.
Eduard Zaritsky, the People's Artist of Belarus, composer, and musician, is the author of more than 600 songs performed by famous singers of the Soviet, Belarusian and Russian pop music, from Victor Vuyachich to Philipp Kirkorov.
Among the poets whose lyrics were put to the composer's music were classics of Belarusian and Russian literature, contemporary, domestic and foreign poets – Maksim Bahdanovič, Francišak Bahuševič, Vintsent Dunin-Martsinkyevich, Mikhail Lermontov, Władysław Syrokomla, Yanka Kupala, Nil Hilevich, Vasil Zuyonok, Ryhor Baradulin, Leanid Dranko-Majsiuk, Rasul Gamzatov, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Larisa Rubalskaya, Langston Hughes and many others.
Zaritsky wrote cyclic forms with the lyrics by Adam Mickiewicz, Yakub Kolas and Uladzimir Karatkievich.
Besides pop compositions, the artistic legacy of E. Zaritsky includes symphonies, suites, and concerts for oboe and French horn, theater and movie scores. The composer created numerous orchestrations for various musicals. Eduard Zaritsky is known not only as a songwriter but also as a true expert in any type of music. His legacy covers almost all genres.
Eduard Zaritsky is rightfully considered a representative of the era of well-educated intelligent composers with a store of general cultural knowledge.
