On June 25th, the I meeting of the Advisory Council for Expatriate Affairs took place at the National Library of Belarus.


The Advisory Council was established under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus with the purpose of improving relations coordination and assistance to Belarusian expatriates from the direction of official bodies of the Republic of Belarus.

The Advisory Council includes representatives of governmental bodies and heads of Belarusian emigrant associations in Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Estonia, and also non-governmental organizations of Belarus. The first meeting was dedicated to the statute of the Advisory Council and its plan of operation, implementation of suggestions of participants of the V Congress of Belarusians of the World, preparation of the draft “On Compatriots” and also holding of the Festival of Belarusian Living Abroad which is to be held in Belarus in 2011.

Representatives of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the Authorized Representative for Religions and Nationalities, and heads of Belarusian emigrant associations abroad took part in the event.

At the end of the meeting the guests made an excursion of the National Library of Belarus and familiarized themselves with its activities, architectural features of the building, equipment, information resources and interior design.

"On the paths of bright spring" by Pavlyuk Trus

On May 16, participants of the National Library of Belarus project "On the wave of time throughout life" visited the Uzden Central District Library named after Pavlyuk Trus, where they took part in the literary and musical festival "On the paths of bright spring.." dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the poet, member of the association "Maladnyak", native of Uzden region Pavlyuk Trus (1904-1929).
