On August 1, the National Library of Belarus launches a new service for legal entities (publishing houses, editorial offices etc): the gross numbering of periodicals and serials.
The gross number is the serial (continuous) number of a periodical since the beginning of the publication. According to paragraph 7.5.2 STB 7.4-2017 “SIBID. Publications. Output data. General requirements and rules for registration”, which establishes the requirements for the structure of output data, including periodicals and serials, the design of output data and their arrangement, the gross number should follow after the current issue number.
Renaming, breaks in publication, change of ownership can make it difficult to determine the gross number. Specialists of the National Library will conduct bibliographic research and help establish the necessary data.
