On May 16, the webinar "Preventive preservation of leather-bound documents" was held at the National Library of Belarus.
Leather bindings of rare and valuable books are of artistic and historical value, therefore they require increased attention.
During the event, Diana Muratova, head of the Department of Restoration and Conservation of library documents at the National Library of Belarus, spoke about the main causes of the destruction of leather bindings of books, the peculiarities of storage and operation of documents in leather bindings. She focused on the crucial role of preventive conservation measures in ensuring the safety of these documents. Yanina Dubinets, a technology engineer at the National Library, spoke about the method of stabilizing leather bindings, the materials used, and demonstrated all stages of the process.
During the event, specialists of the National Library of Belarus answered questions about the features of the use of various fattening compounds, their effect on the skin.
The webinar was attended by representatives of 16 regional, district and republican libraries.
