The Fundamental Library of the Belarusian State University hosted a Republican scientific and methodological round table on the topic "Library profession: priorities of the 21st century" on June 17th.

The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the BBA (Belarusian Library Association). Heads and specialists of libraries from all regions of Belarus discussed the prospects for the development of institutions, issues of improving continuing professional education, improving the image of the profession and the demand for libraries in society.

Welcome address from Valeriya Hromada, the First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, was read out by Elena Berezovskaya, the chief specialist of the Ministry of Culture.

Mikhail Afanasyev, the President of the Russian Library Association, Director of the State Public Historical Library of Russia, Candidate of Historical Sciences, was the guest of honor at the event, who congratulated his Belarusian colleagues and gave a presentation on "Librarian and Reader: modus vivendi yesterday, today and tomorrow".

Also congratulated the BBA in an online format are as follows: Vadim Duda, the President of the Library Assembly of Eurasia and the General Director of the Russian State Library; Anna Chulyan, Vice-President of the Library Assembly of Eurasia, Director of the National Library of Armenia; Peter Lapo, General Expert on the Nazarbayev University Library (Kazakhstan).

The official part of the event continued with an award ceremony for library staff who have made a significant contribution to the development of the Belarusian Library Association at various times.

In the main part of the round table, participants got acquainted with key aspects of library development and their human resources. Elena Berezovskaya, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Culture, presented the directions of implementation of the state policy in the library sector of the Republic of Belarus.

Vladimir Kulazhenko, Chairman of the Council of the Belarusian Library Association, Director of the Fundamental Library of BSU, shared his vision of the future of the library profession.

Viktar Pshybytka, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, presented an analysis of the personnel potential of public libraries in Belarus.

Yulia Galkovskaya, the dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Communications of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, shared innovations in the system of training library personnel at the higher education level.

Inna Yurik, Director of the Scientific Library of the Belarusian State University of Science and Technology, presented key vectors for developing libraries of higher education institutions.

All participants of the round table unanimously emphasized the important role of the BBA in coordinating the activities of libraries of various departments, establishing their corporate interaction, and expressed hope for further successful development of the professional community of librarians in Belarus.
