Round table "Research of provenancies in Belarus"

On 27 November, a round table "Research of provenancies in Belarus" was held in the National Library of Belarus.

The organizers of the event were the National Library of Belarus and the Protection of Rare Books of the Belarusian Library Association.

The round table was attended by researchers and specialists of the National Library of Belarus (NLB), the Y. Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State University Fundamental Library, the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus, the Republican Scientific and Technical Library, the Republican Scientific Medical Library, libraries of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, libraries of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after M. Tank, libraries of the Belarusian State Economic University, the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the National historical-cultural museum “Neswizh”, the Institute of Business and Management of Technologies of the Belarusian State University.

In his welcoming address, Deputy Director for Research and Publishing Activities of the National Library of Belarus Alexandr Susha told about the Library’s experience and achievements in the reconstruction of the Belarusian book collections, as well as emphasized the relevance and experience of research of provenancies. Head of the NLB Bibliology Division Galina Kireeva spoke about the necessity to coordinate the activities of institutions which store manuscripts, old-printed and rare books as well as the importance of joint theoretical researches and developments of general approaches to research provenancies. Head of Rare Books and Manuscripts Department of the Y. Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences Alexandr Stephanovich stressed the importance of conducting of round tables on bibliology themes which give an opportunity to share experience, discuss problems and develop ways of activization and improvement of bibliology researches.

Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences Inna Murashova (“Impresses, stamps, seals as individual book marks: to the question of terminology”), Candidate of historical sciences, Associate Professor of the Business Communication Chair of the Institute of Business and Management of Technologies of the Belarusian State University Anatoly Stebaruko (“Provenancies of the Catholic educational institutions of the end of the 16th and the first part of the 17th centuries on books from the fund of the National Library of Belarus”), Head of the Rare Books and Documents of the library of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts Tamara Samoylyuk (“Provenancies: a review of publications”).

The event reflected the modern achievements of the Belarusian scientists in the research of provenancies and outlined the prospects of the further work on the study of the Belarusian book collections.
