On November 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the grand opening of the 8th Belarusian Christmas Educational Readings. This year's theme is “Global challenges of our time and the spiritual choice of man”.

Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus; Viktor Liskovich, Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Education, Science and Culture of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, of the Republic of Belarus; Igor Lutsky, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus; and representatives of ministries and the diplomatic corps addressed the audience with welcoming speeches.

During the plenary session, speakers addressed the issues of spiritual and moral choice of a person and all mankind in the context of pervasive globalization, human life in the modern world, the role of spiritual and moral values, the continuous continuity of spiritual traditions in preserving the national identity of the Belarusian people, and shaping the future of our country.

During the event, cooperation agreements were signed between the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, and the Belarusian Red Cross Society.

The winners of the republican contests “Light of Mercy” and “Library is the center of Spiritual enlightenment and education” were awarded in a solemn ceremony.

Especially for the 8th Belarusian Christmas Educational Readings, the National Library of Belarus has prepared a thematic exhibition of works of the 8th Republican contest “Library is the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment and Education”.

The participants of the event also got acquainted with the photo exhibitions “Connection of Times: 1030 years of Ravoslav in the Belarusian lands”, “Open Dialogue: international and educational activities of Metropolitan Philaret (Vakhromeev) and the exhibition” Social and educational activities of the Pokrova Center for Family, Motherhood and Childhood Support and the Charitable Foundation for Family, Motherhood and Childhood Support “Pokrov”.

At the end of the plenary session, the section “Spiritual Enlightenment through libraries” and the round table “Spiritual values of Belarusians as a basis for national unity in the face of modern challenges” were held.

The Forum was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the National Library of Belarus.

From May 6 to July 5, the Reference and Information Service reading room (room 257) hosts the book exhibition "Belarus Unconquered", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
