Today we begin to introduce you to the new section “Postcards and Posters from the collections of the National Library of Belarus”.
The unique section ”Postcards and Posters from the collections of the National Library of Belarus“ popularizes for a wide audience the wealth of pictorial documents stored in the ”diamond of knowledge", those values that sometimes undeservedly remain unnoticed by readers. Autograph prints, linarites, drawings and sketches, images from TASS and BELTA Photo Chronicles, posters of the Soviet time, exhibition catalogues, theatre posters and photo fragments from theatrical productions, postcards from different times – all these valuable documents are displayed in the exhibitions of the section devoted to various topics, holidays, events from the history of world culture and art. This year marks the 185th anniversary of the invention of photography. Its history began back in the Renaissance, when artists used the first pinhole cameras. However, it was in January 1839 that a report was presented at the French Academy of Sciences on a new way of creating images, developed by Niepce, Daguerre, Fox Talbat and others.
The exhibition ”A Look through Time" will introduce the history of photography, daguerreotypes, the evolution of cameras, as well as the work of world photographers: A. Cartier-Bresson, A. Adams, J. Sudek, etc. Photos of our fellow countrymen-Belarusian photographers Ya. Bulgak, M. Napelbaum, modern authors (V. Lobko, Yu. Vasilyev, Yu. Ivanov, V. Vedrenko, astrophotographer V. Malyshits) will be interesting.
The material was provided by the Service Department of Specialized Funds.
