The classes "Book Professors’ Club” started in the Book Museum on 25 September.
The “Book Professors’ Club” is a continuous course including 9 classes. Children visit the library every month during the school year. The program is a complete system that focuses on the deliberate initiation of children to the library and book culture. This is a series of enets involving regular contacts with a particular audience. Previously a lot of work on the formation of a collective group was held. Due to the high demand, two groups were formed. Once a month, one group will attend classes on Fridays, and the second group on Sundays.
The first thematic classes “Forms and materials of the book” were about hand-written books. To children it was important to understand that in ancient times the book was quite different from the modern. The "book professors" learned about the basic forms of the book, materials used for writing, and also the basic terms: manuscript, papyrus, parchment, scroll, codex, scriptorium, protograph and others.
The theoretical part included: a lecture-conversation, or dialogue with the audience, which is the most common form of the active involvement of members of the group in the process of learning; discussion that allows participants to speak and to hear different opinions and arguments, to make the analysis and conclusions; play-pantomime, which not only improves the mood of the group, but also unites and develops non-verbal thinking, and others. After the theoretical part of children could find manuscripts in the exposition and name their forms and materials.
To fix the theory kids performed a creative task, which allowed them to show their individual abilities and take a creative look at the object of knowledge. They made with their own hands a “bamboo scroll" of cardboard and thread. Then they wrote vertical texts on laths, from top to bottom.
At the classes children manifested activity, interest, intelligence, ingenuity and perseverance, and willingly shared their knowledge and experiences.
