On June 26 and 27, the National Library hosted participants of the international internship programme “An intercultural and professional dialogue of young librarians from the CIS member states”.
The event was attended by librarians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The internship programme was provided by the Library Assembly of Eurasia and sponsored by the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS.
The first part of the internship was held in the Russian State Library on June 21–23, and the second part took place at the National Library of Belarus on June 26–27.
In Minsk, the programme was rich and useful for young professionals: lectures, workshops, discussions, educational excursions and exchange of experience. On 26 June the first deputy director of the National Library of Belarus Elena Dolgopolova met the guests and acquainted them with the library’s history and resources, as well as its possibilities as an information, social and cultural center of the country.
The young colleagues made an educational tour during which they could appreciate the architectural features, design and the range of activities of the “Belarusian diamond”. In the Book Museum the guests listened to a lecture dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book-printing.
The acquaintance with the libraries of Minsk continued in the Scientific Library of the Belarusian National Technical University and the Republican Scientific Medical Library.
Within the framework of the visit to the headquarters of the CIS Executive Committee, a meeting was held with the deputy director of the department for humanitarian cooperation, general political and social problems Amonzhan Eshonkulov, during which the participants discussed topical issues in the field of humanitarian cooperation between the CIS member states.
On June 27, the internship results were summed-up at the National Library, and the participants received diplomas. The event was attended by Elena Dolgopolova, Nelly Petkova, the head of the external communications department of the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS, and Galina Raikova, the general director of the Library Assembly of Eurasia and head of the CIS and Russia library liaison department of the Russian State Library.
The organization of such professional meetings is of particular importance for the rapprochement of librarians of the Commonwealth countries at the interstate level, promoting the acquisition of experience in various areas of librarianship and contributing to an effective work and development of the CIS libraries.
