Thousands of literary characters inhabit the pages of novels and short stories, written by famous Brazilian writer Jorge Amado (1912–2001). They have different names, faces and characters. Each of them live in their own way, but almost all of them are brought together one land – his characters work, struggle for existence, dream and love on the land of Bahia...
As an artist Jorge Amado is remarkable for his vivid imagination and high narrative mastery, original style that combines folk and literary languages.
In the books, presented at the anniversary exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary from the date of the writer’s birth, a reader can see the pages, which are exciting and full of incomprehensible charm. Among them are Jubiabá, The Violent Land, Old Sailors, Red Sprouts, Doña Flor and Her Two Husbands, Gabriela and many other works.
The exposition demonstrates books inn Portuguese – Gabriela, Cravo e Canela (1975), Mar Muerto (1977), in German – Herres des Strandes (1973), Das Verschwinden der heiligen Barbara (1990).
The exposition also contains materials about Jorge Amado’s life and work.
