Fyodor Dostoevsky is a Russian writer, thinker, philosopher and essayist, a corresponding member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences since 1877. In his work, he raised the eternal philosophical problems of human existence, spirituality and faith. According to UNESCO, Dostoevsky in the last century was one of the most widely read writers in the world. So it is at the beginning of a new, twenty-first century, when a variety of stylistic and new philosophical trends have come to replace the traditions of classical Russian, Belarusian and world literature.
The anniversary exhibition “Open to the abyss” includes about 100 publications: the collected works, collections of selected works, individual works, articles and letters, literature on the life and work of the writer.
Of all his works, Dostoevsky most loved The Writer’s Diary. He thought about the form and content of the Diary until his death. This work is an encyclopedia of Dostoevsky, his experimental laboratory and warehouse materials for other products. Three volumes of the Diary were published from 1873 to 1881. The exhibition presents The Writer’s Diary for 1876, published in 1883 in St. Petersburg.
The encyclopedic dictionary of S. Belov Fyodor Dostoevsky and his Entourage (2001) in two volumes is unique. On the basis of printed and archival sources the author reconstructed the portraits of all the contemporaries of the great Russian writer, with whom he had met and interacted creatively.
The lliterature on the life and work of the writer is numerous and interesting. The book Thoughts, Sayings and Aphorisms of Dostoevsky (1975), published in Paris, is the first attempt to publish his aphorisms and sayings. All the aphorisms are chosen only from those works in which the writer spoke on his behalf.
The exhibition is addressed to all readers interested in the biography and creative heritage of the outstanding Russian writer.
