The father of science fiction of the 20th century and great master of the critical realism Herbert George Wells (1866–1946) created nearly 40 novels and many volumes of stories, several dozens of compositions on philosophical, sociological and historical problems with political and social expectations, some children books and autobiography.
The anniversary exhibition presents nearly 100 editions, including author’s works, literature about his life and work.
The exposition offers some author’s editions – The War of the Worlds (St.-Petersburg, 1901), A Modern Utopia (St.-Petersburg, 1906), In the Days of the Comet (Leipzig, 1906).
The Collected works in 15 volumes (1964) and modern editions of the English writer’s novels are presented as well.
Maxim Chertanov’s book Herbert Wells from the series "Life of outstanding people" is extremely interesting. It’s the first Russian Wells’ biography, based on a wide range of sources, it contains a lot of illustrations.
Alexandra Yakovleva’s book New Worlds of Herbert Wells is dedicated to one of the least researched part of the creative heritage – political ideas, writer’s statements and precautions.
The exhibition is aimed at readers who are interested in life and work of the British writer and publicist Herbert Wells.
