Restoration and Conservation Department

General information

The Restoration and Conservation Department was founded with the purpose of preservation of library resources at the National Library of Belarus. At first the department carried out preventive maintenance of the Library’s book stacks with the use of plain and inexpensive technologies. At presents this is a large library department carrying out restoration and conservation of paper documents with the use of the latest achievements of chemistry, physics and biology. The Restoration and Conservation Department is the major Belarusian center of paper documents preservation.

Activities

Consulting, methodological and practical aid to other libraries, archives and museums; participation in development and implementation of national programs on library documents preservation; study and application of advanced methods of paper information resources conservation; application of new technologies and equipment; participation in scientific conferences and seminars.

Functions:

  • restoration and conservation of paper documents;
  • disinfection and disinsection of library stacks;
  • binding.
